The Results of Our 'Informal New Year Survey'

At the last lunch the WIB Team took a quick survey at their tables to get some much needed feedback from the members. Thanks for everyone who took the time to discuss their ideas with us. We have logged the offers for presentations and will be contacting people about this as slots are available. If you did not attend the lunch but would like to give a presentation in the future please let us know.

The overwhelming issues which came out of this survey was a feeling that we need to make the lunch meetings more structured and professional to maximise the time spent networking. Please see below for the comments we gathered. Please add anything if you feel we have missed something out or agree/disagree with any of the suggestions.

What would you like to see at the luncheons?

  1. An opportunity for everyone to share what they do and something specific they are looking for out of the day’s lunch. This is difficult to achieve with so many people at each meeting, but could be introduced on the blog before the lunches, so members can learn more about those attending and go and meet with them on the day.
  2. More focus on networking, 1 hour of networking before moving to tables and a buffet lunch to allow more movement around the group
  3. Slots for members at the beginning of each meeting to introduce themselves, perhaps 5 slots per meeting for new and more established members
  4. More speed networking
  5. Less sitting at lunch tables
  6. More opportunities to exchange business ideas/literature

What do you expect to gain out of these luncheons?

  1. Knowledge
  2. Introductions
  3. Referrals and Recommendations of good businesses who can be trusted
  4. New contacts and business opportunities
  5. A regular platform to represent my business, build a brand and gain the trust of the members

Do you have any ideas on how we can improve the network?

  1. Share more information with other groups outside WIBs and Occasional invites to other business groups
  2. People who can make introductions to enable networking
  3. A seating plan to stop the same people sitting together or a way to more easily network e.g. a buffet lunch or moving at each course
  4. A list of attendees before the meeting to plan who to speak to
  5. A designated place to put flyers
  6. Continue to have a committee member on the table
  7. More formal networking opportunities e.g. speed networking or organised activities before the meal to enable you to make better use of the time
  8. Everyone should receive the joining pack and a simple explanation on how to update the profile on the website
  9. A quarterly trade fair where members can set up a stall
  10. Informal WIB events e.g. wine tastings or trips to galleries or concerts

Is there anything you would like to learn from WIB?

  1. Any knowledge pertaining to anything that can help us to be better in business, meet more potential clients, avoid bad suppliers and have cost effective solutions for working and living on the Coast.
  2. Accounting and legal information e.g. tax forms in business, whether to set up SL or SA, social security information, advantage/disadvantages to set up formal company/pension implications etc.
  3. Spanish lessons, cooking!

We will be discussing these results at the next committee meeting and modifying our future meetings accordingly. If you want to add anything, please let us have your feedback on how we can make WIB even better this year either by email or by posting on our blog.
