After many years of image consultancy in UK, my husband and I moved to the sunshine and the fabulous lifestyle of the Costa del Sol.

People often ask me – what made you change your profession to become an image consultant?  The answer is very simple – when I had my own ‘colours done’ many years ago, followed by a Make Up session and a Style session, I was wearing black, grey, deep navy and burgundy – to name but a few horrors!  Also I used to wear pale pink lipstick.  Imagine my shock to find out that not only had I been wearing the wrong (and probably quite ageing) colours in clothing all my life, but also my make up kit was completely out of kilter with my natural skin tones.  I adore my coral, geranium pink and red lipsticks now and can’t imagine how I ever thought I looked good in washed out pink.

It was a very easy decision for me to spend a few months in training to enable me to go out and show other people exactly what they have been missing out on.

I thought today I will talk about Colour & how it affects us in our everyday life. Colour is a basic element of interior design, but its influence on our lives is wonderfully complicated. It affects our personal well-being and completes and individualizes our homes and workplaces.

Knowing, for example, which colour suits you can help you to look good and feel good. The same will be applied to the Interiors where we live: they reflect our personality & our individuality.

Colour isn't just cosmetic – researches into the physiological effects of colour, show that certain colours have a very real effect on mood and behaviour, including stimulating appetite, encouraging creativity and even easing pain. According to these researches there are only four psychological primary colours – red, which relates to the body, blue to the mind, yellow to the emotions, and green, which provides a balance between the three. Shades and tints of these determine how they affect us.

Ultimately, remember—it is your space & you need to evaluate your own response to colour, because it varies from individual to individual. It can be daunting starting with a blank canvas and equally difficult trying to match colours with existing pieces of furniture and furnishings. The colours you chose are colours that you will need to live with everyday, probably for a few years. It is therefore important that the right decision is made. As children, we do not let other people's opinions (and even accepted facts) influence our actions. Unfortunately, as we grow up, we become very dependent on what others think; on what is considered 'right' and what is considered 'wrong'. Many of us even choose our careers and our life partners depending on how it will be accepted by everyone around us. I say, you only have one life to live – YOUR life! Do not let human dependency for approval and acceptance affect you. Do not settle for a comfortable existence when you deserve a wonderful life of purpose and fulfilment!
